Swansea Bay -  Meet at Coast Cafe (SA1 1UN)

The 2 minute beach clean team is teaming up with the Annibendod Project to deliver an exciting event as part of Swansea Science Festival. Join the beach clean team at Coast Cafe (SA1 1UN) to collect plastics. These will then be used to weave miniature panels at The National Waterfront Museum on Sunday 6 November as part of our family weekend. Turn someone's rubbish into treasure!

Join us for an evening of discovery at the Swansea Science Café which offers an opportunity to learn about some of the world-class cancer research happening in Swansea and around Wales. There will be presentations about a revolutionary blood test that could transform the way bowel cancer is diagnosed and how DNA damage can be used to detect cancer earlier.

Have you ever wondered why things are different colours? Did you know that some colours are invisible?! Find out in this interactive workshop where you will find out all about light, and make your own rainbow viewers. You'll never look at light the same way again.

In one of Science Made Simple’s most popular shows, Becky Holmes explores the best bits of bubbles and of balloons; from blowing them to bursting them, discover all the amazing things you can do in between.

In this workshop, which supplements the Model Railway Exhibit, you will explore and develop computational thinking via train shunting puzzles. Shunting involves the careful rearrangement of wagons in shunting yards to form trains of the required configuration. With limited track, this involves multiple steps to organise the wagons. Can you tackle our problem-solving puzzles and arrange the wagons?

To address widening health inequalities in the UK, health promotion must be targeted to marginalised ethnic and cultural groups who have the poorest access to health and wellbeing services. Gypsies, Roma, and Travellers have the worst health outcomes of any ethnic group across many indicators, but little is known about their experiences of alcohol use and harm. Through digital stories, based upon interviews conducted by peers, Gypsies, Roma, Travellers and Boaters explore how alcohol use relates to their own culture, ethnicity and identity.

The COVID-19 pandemic was an unanticipated opportunity to understand how a sudden global shock changes people’s online searches when seeking information about how they feel. In this talk, we will show you how we use open-source information to reveal how technology and crisis have changed how we express our emotions on social media and in web searches.

In this entertaining show, we will look at some of the amazing missions and discoveries that have happened since that first landing and find out how we can take humans back to the Moon and further to Mars. Would you like to turn your dreams into a work of art? Tell Sleep Scientist Mark Blagrove all about your dream and then paint it with artist Julia Lockheart.
